Delivery of inputs for use by earth system models in CMIP7

Climate Resource has played a leading role in delivery of input datasets to be used by earth system models within Phase 7 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP7), part of the World Climate Research Programme (WRCP).

We have helped deliver a range of required input datasets, including development of the input4MIPs-validation package and maintenance of the input4MIPs-CVs documentation page, including leading the delivery of the greenhouse gas concentration datasets. Delivery of these datasets has paved the way for simulations of pre-industrial and historical climate within CMIP, with the development of inputs for simulations of possible futures (i.e. scenarios) being planned for the coming months.

Dr. Zebedee Nicholls has led this work, including taking on an official role as co-lead of the WCRP CMIP Climate Forcings Task Team alongside Paul Durack (PCMDI/LLNL) and Vaishali Naik (NOAA/GFDL) and working with a team of scientists from multiple institutes around the world. The work has been funded by the European Space Agency, most recently as part of the GHG Forcing For CMIP project of the Climate Change Initiative (CCI) (ESA Contract No. 4000146681/24/I-LR-cl).
